On July 15, 2024, the EPA published both a direct final action granting North Carolina final authorization for revisions to its federally authorized hazardous waste program, along with a companion proposed rule announcing the EPA's proposal to grant such final authorization. The EPA received two comments during the public comment period. On September 11, 2024, the EPA published a withdrawal of the direct final action so it could respond to the comments before the action went into effect.
