| 01-31793 | Notice of Meeting | Notice | As provided in Section 203 of the Amtrak Reform and Accountability Act of 1997 (Reform Act), the Amtrak Reform Council (Council) gives notice of a special public meeting of the Council. On Friday, January 11, 2002, the Council will hold a Business Meeting from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) during which time the Council members will discuss the various options for restructuring intercity rail passenger service. During the last Council meeting on December 14, 2001, the Council discussed nine options for restructuring Amtrak. The Council then instructed the Council staff to reduce those options to three, and the Council will discuss those three options at the next Council meeting on January 11, 2002. The Council will determine, either at the January 11th Meeting, in a later meeting, or by a mail ballot, which option or options to adopt. The final recommendation will be submitted to Congress on February 7, 2002. The Amtrak Reform Council on November 9, 2001 approved a resolution finding that Amtrak would not achieve operational self-sufficiency by December 2, 2002 as required by the Amtrak Reform and Accountability Act of 1997.
