| 01-19045 | Qualification of Drivers; Exemption Applications; Diabetes | Notice | This notice announces the FMCSA's proposal to issue exemptions to certain insulin-using diabetic drivers of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), from the diabetes mellitus prohibitions contained in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). The FMCSA requests comments on its proposed exemption program, but we are not accepting applications for exemptions at this time. If a decision to proceed with the exemption program is made, the exemptions would be granted only to those applicants who meet the specific conditions and comply with all the requirements of the exemption. Exemptions would be issued for a period of two years.
