| 00-12014 | Privacy of Consumer Financial Information; Requirements for Insurance | Rule | The NCUA Board is issuing a final privacy rule applicable to all federally-insured credit unions, as required by the recently enacted Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (the GLB Act or Act). The final rule requires credit unions to have a privacy policy and provide certain disclosures and notices to individuals about whom credit unions collect nonpublic personal information. It also restricts a credit union's ability to disclose nonpublic personal information, including giving individuals in some cases an opportunity to opt out of the disclosure. In drafting the rule, the NCUA participated as part of an interagency group composed of representatives from the NCUA, the Federal Trade Commission, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Office of Thrift Supervision, Secretary of the Treasury, and Securities and Exchange Commission (collectively, the Agencies). The other Agencies are also required to issue regulations to implement the GLB Act.
