2 2523 S001208 Elissa Slotkin 2022 North Oakland County Fire Authority 487140 Protection, safety and the well-being of our residents is probably the most important use of taxpayer money that exists. Smaller rural communities like ours deserve the same level of emergency services as a large suburban or city area does. Unfortunately this is almost nonexistent in our Country. Rural communities are prone to having to wait for up to 30 minutes for an emergency response and then have to rely on sub-standard care and treatment from First Responders who don't receive the same level of training and education as larger community agencies do. The North Oakland County Fire Authority has changed this trend. We have built a fire and EMS response agency that maintains highly skilled and trained men and women. We have been able to establish our operations so that every resident receives a quick and urgent response time that averages under 8 minutes and is comparable, if not better than response times you would see in the large career First Responder agency communities. The downside to this is trying to keep tax payer dollars to a minimum. Gaining this equipment through these federal funds would allow us to continue our level of service to our residents for another 10 years and therefore prevent unnecessary tax increases that many of our residents could simply not afford.
