| SSA-2007-0101 | SSA | Revised Medical Criteria for Evaluating Mental Disorders | Rulemaking | 2024-05-29T11:14:14Z | 0b0000648037f03f | 0960-AF69 | We have not comprehensively revised section 12.00 of the listings, the mental disorders body system for adults (individuals who are at least 18 years old), since we published it in the Federal Register on August 28, 1985 (50 FR 35038). We last published final rules that comprehensively revised section 112.00, the mental disorders listings for children (individuals under age 18), in the Federal Register on December 12, 1990 (55 FR 51208). Although the 1985 and 1990 listings were significant advancements in our rules at the time we published them, they were based in part on prior editions of the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). We have also gained considerable adjudicative experience in the 22 years since we published the adult listings and the 17 years since we published the child listings. We published some updates to the mental disorders listings in 2000. These updates improved the rules, but we did not intend them to be a comprehensive revision or update of the rules. Therefore, we are proposing to update and revise the listings for mental disorders to reflect our adjudicative experience and the advances in medical knowledge, treatment, and methods of evaluating mental disorders that have occurred since we last revised them comprehensively in 1985 and 1990. | Title II - Disability | Title II--Federal Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance Benefits | Mental Listings | Social Security Administration | {"displayProperties": [{"name": "organization", "label": "Organization", "tooltip": "Identifies docket's (a regulatory action) orginating agency and/or department, equivalents: Division, Pre-EDOCKET ID."}, {"name": "shortTitle", "label": "Short Title", "tooltip": "A combination of letters and or numbers assigned to an agency's regulatory action for purposes of brevity."}], "keywords": null, "modifyDate": "2024-05-29T11:14:14Z", "dkAbstract": "We have not comprehensively revised section 12.00 of the listings, the mental disorders body system for adults (individuals who are at least 18 years old), since we published it in the Federal Register on August 28, 1985 (50 FR 35038).
