NOAA-NMFS-2013-0026 NOAA Amendment 8 to the 2006 Consolidated Atlantic Highly Migratory Species Fishery Management Plan – North Atlantic Swordfish Management Measures Rulemaking 2024-06-12T01:06:59Z 0b000064811ddd7d 0648-BC31 This proposed rule to implement Amendment 8 to the 2006 Consolidated Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Fishery Management Plan (FMP) addresses North Atlantic swordfish commercial fishery management measures. Based upon the rebuilt status of North Atlantic swordfish, renewed interest in commercial handgears that are lower in bycatch and bycatch mortality, and the availability of swordfish quota, Amendment 8 to the 2006 Atlantic Consolidated HMS FMP proposes to provide additional commercial fishing opportunities for persons using swordfish handgears. Specifically, this proposed action considers: (1) the implementation of new and modified commercial swordfish vessel permits and authorized gears, while requiring adherence to existing reporting requirements; and, (2) swordfish retention limits associated with the new and modified permits. This proposed rule could potentially affect U.S. commercial and recreational fishermen who fish for Atlantic swordfish, as well as swordfish dealers, fishing tackle manufacturers and distributors, marinas, restaurants, and other small businesses.               {"displayProperties": [], "keywords": null, "modifyDate": "2024-06-12T01:06:59Z", "dkAbstract": "This proposed rule to implement Amendment 8 to the 2006 Consolidated Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Fishery Management Plan (FMP) addresses North Atlantic swordfish commercial fishery management measures.
