| FSIS-2011-0014 | FSIS | Reducing Sodium in the Food Supply; Establishing Sodium Reduction Targets; Establishment of Dockets; Request for Comments, Data and Information | Nonrulemaking | 2012-03-07T15:45:46Z | 0b00006480e3254a | The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) are announcing the establishment of dockets to obtain comments, data and information that will inform future agency activities regarding the reduction of dietary intake of sodium. FDA and FSIS oversee approximately 80 percent and 20 percent of the food supply, respectively. FDA and FSIS are particularly interested in research that will help both organizations understand the challenges of reducing sodium in foods marketed in the U.S. and develop targets for sodium reduction in foods to promote reduction of excess sodium intake, which is largely the result of added sodium chloride (salt). FDA and FSIS recognize ongoing efforts by the restaurant and packaged food industries to reduce sodium and appreciate the complexities of reducing sodium in foods. Continued input and support from industry and other stakeholders are important to successfully address this significant public health issue. | {"displayProperties": [{"name": "abstract", "label": "Summary", "tooltip": "Describes an agency's specific regulatory action; equivalents: Abstract, Description, Docket Subject, General Info, Summary."}], "keywords": null, "modifyDate": "2012-03-07T15:45:46Z", "dkAbstract": "The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) are announcing the establishment of dockets to obtain comments, data and information that will inform future agency activities regarding the reduction of dietary intake of sodium.
