APHIS-2017-0109 APHIS Cattle Fever Tick Eradication on Laguna Atascosa and Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuges Nonrulemaking 2018-01-23T09:01:12Z 0b00006482d4a2db   The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Wildlife Refuge System, Southwest Region have cooperatively prepared an environmental assessment (EA), “Cattle Fever Tick Eradication on Laguna Atascosa and Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuges”. The EA analyzes the potential environmental impacts of reducing cattle tick populations by implementing additional eradication strategies on refuge property. The two alternatives considered for eradication of cattle fever ticks in the United States are (1) continue the current cattle fever tick eradication program efforts, and (2) continue current cattle fever tick eradication program efforts, treat white-tailed deer with ivermectin, and conduct experimental cattle grazing on refuge lands that fall within established quarantined areas (preferred alternative). Both agencies are requesting that the public review and provide their comments on the EA by January 22, 2018.
