JO BONNER\n\n                               of alabama\n\n                    in the house of representatives\n\n                       Tuesday, December 7, 2004\n\n  Mr. BONNER. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the life of a young\nman from the First Congressional District of Alabama who recently made\nthe ultimate sacrifice in the defense of freedom abroad.\n  Lance Corporal Brad Faircloth, a native of Mobile, Alabama, was\nassigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, based at Camp Lejeune,\nNorth Carolina. In July of this year, Brad's unit was deployed to Iraq\nin support of ongoing military operations in that country. It was there\nthat, on November 25, 2004, he was killed while he and other members of\nhis unit conducted house-to-house searches in Fallujah, Iraq, looking\nfor members of that country's insurgent movement.\n  Brad set a standard of excellence and displayed the qualities of\ndiscipline, devotion, and dedication to country that are hallmarks of\nmen and women throughout the long and distinguished history of the\nAmerican military. Following his 2002 graduation from Murphy High\nSchool in Mobile, Alabama, and after one year as a student at Delta\nState University in Mississippi, Brad chose to join the Marine Corps.\nIn recent days, many members of his family said he did so in large part\nin response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, because he\nfelt he should do his part in the fight to protect his country. Brad\nwas an extremely conscientious and dedicated marine, and he was honored\nrecently with the presentation to his family of three Purple Hearts and\nthe Distinguished Service Medal.\n  Mr. Speaker, I feel certain his many friends in Mobile County and his\ncomrades in the United States Marine Corps, while mourning the loss of\nthis fine young man, are also taking this opportunity to remember his\nmany accomplishments during his brief 20 years, and to recall the fine\ngift they each received simply from knowing him and having him as an\nintegral part of their lives.\n  I urge my colleagues to take a moment and pay tribute to Lance\nCorporal Brad Faircloth and his selfless devotion to not only our\ncountry and the freedoms we enjoy, but to a people who are but now in\nthe infancy of a new life--a new freedom--in their own land.\n  We should also remember his mother, Kathleen Faircloth-Smith; his\nstepfather, Paul Smith; his grandparents, Dewey and Helen Faircloth;\nhis uncle, Tim Faircloth; and his other family members and many\nfriends. Our prayer is that God will give them all the strength and\ncourage that only He can provide to sustain them during the difficult\ndays ahead.\n  It was Joseph Campbell who said, ``A hero is someone who has given\nhis or her life to something bigger than oneself.'' Make no mistake,\nyoung Brad Faircloth was not only a dedicated marine who made the\nultimate sacrifice serving in the uniform of his country, but he was\nalso a true American hero.\n\n                          ____________________"]], "columns": ["granule_id", "date", "congress", "session", "volume", "issue", "title", "chamber", "granule_class", "sub_granule_class", "page_start", "page_end", "speakers", "bills", "citation", "full_text"], "primary_keys": ["granule_id"], "primary_key_values": ["CREC-2004-12-07-pt1-PgE2189-2"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.267722993157804, "source": "Federal Register API & Regulations.gov API", "source_url": "https://www.federalregister.gov/developers/api/v1", "license": "Public Domain (U.S. Government data)", "license_url": "https://www.regulations.gov/faq"}
