Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to the American\npatriots who lost their lives on the fateful day of December 7, 1941.\n  In the greatest defining moment of the world's most defining war in\nour history, over 2,400 Americans were killed and more than 1,100 were\nwounded at Pearl Harbor, including hundreds of innocent civilians.\n  As costly as it was in the lives of our men and women in uniform, in\nmilitary assets, and in esteem and pride, Pearl Harbor was a watershed\nmoment for America.\n  December 7, 1941 marked the turning point for our Nation and\ndetermined the future of our foreign policy. America changed from a\nNation turned inward to a strong and unified superpower, steadfast in\nour commitment to champion and defend the ideals of freedom and\ndemocracy.\n  Pearl Harbor caused our Nation to wholeheartedly commit to winning\nWorld War II, changing the course of our Nation's history and the\nworld's future.\n  The catastrophic loss of American soldiers led to our country\nbecoming the America we live in today. At home and abroad, we fight for\nthe ideals of social and political equality. This policy was founded in\nthe aftermath of Pearl Harbor and continues to be our Nation's moral\ncompass.\n  This day should not be remembered with hatred or bitterness. It\nshould be a day to honor the bravery of our men and women and\nremembered as the day our Nation was united and our sacrifices\nconsecrated.\n  We learned in World War II that no single nation holds a monopoly on\nwisdom, morality or right to power, but that we must fight for the weak\nand promote democracy. These are the difficult lessons learned in 1941\nand enshrined in Pearl Harbor.\n\n                          ____________________"]], "columns": ["granule_id", "date", "congress", "session", "volume", "issue", "title", "chamber", "granule_class", "sub_granule_class", "page_start", "page_end", "speakers", "bills", "citation", "full_text"], "primary_keys": ["granule_id"], "primary_key_values": ["CREC-2004-12-07-pt1-PgE2184-4"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.36448800005928206, "source": "Federal Register API & Regulations.gov API", "source_url": "https://www.federalregister.gov/developers/api/v1", "license": "Public Domain (U.S. Government data)", "license_url": "https://www.regulations.gov/faq"}
