Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to a good\nfriend and valued colleague, Jane Harman, whose distinguished career in\nthe House of Representatives will come to a close with the end of the\n105th Congress.\n\n[[Page E2333]]\n\n  In my time in Congress, Mr. Speaker, I have developed the greatest\nrespect and admiration for Jane Harman. Her dedication to this\ninstitution, her commitment to the people she represents, and her\nunfailing desire to work for the best interests of this nation set the\nstandards to which all Members of Congress should strive.\n  Whether the issue has been gender equity in the military or\nestablishing a budget lockbox, Jane has been a true leader. When she\nspeaks out on an issue, Mr. Speaker, we all know that she has given it\nthoughtful consideration and is well informed. Her sincerity and\nknowledge give her an authority that enables her to persuasively make\nher case and convince her colleagues of the rightness of her position.\nThis ability has served her constituents and this country very well,\nand she should be proud of her many accomplishments.\n  As a fellow Californian, I have always admired and respected the work\nJane has done for our State. She will be sorely missed not only by her\ncolleagues on the Hill, but by all those Californians who have come to\nrely on her reasoned and moderate approach to the issues.\n  Mr. Speaker, the House of Representatives and the country are better\nfor the service that Jane Harman has given us. I know that in the\nfuture she will continue her commitment to public service and her\ncontributions to our nation will grow. I thank her for her efforts and\nwish her the best of luck for the future.\n\n                          ____________________"]], "columns": ["granule_id", "date", "congress", "session", "volume", "issue", "title", "chamber", "granule_class", "sub_granule_class", "page_start", "page_end", "speakers", "bills", "citation", "full_text"], "primary_keys": ["granule_id"], "primary_key_values": ["CREC-1998-11-12-pt1-PgE2332-2"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.33669298863969743, "source": "Federal Register API & Regulations.gov API", "source_url": "https://www.federalregister.gov/developers/api/v1", "license": "Public Domain (U.S. Government data)", "license_url": "https://www.regulations.gov/faq"}
